The 1990-91 National Hockey League season featured the closest any player would get to matching Wayne Gretzky's record of 92 goals in a single season. Brett Hull of the St. Louis Blues scored 86, 35 more than any other player in the NHL that season. Along with Hull, just Steve Yzerman, Theo Fleury and Cam Neely crossed the 50 goal plateau that year.

1981-82 was uncharted territory for goal scoring in the National Hockey League. Wayne Gretzky of the Edmonton Oilers set what most believe is an unbreakable record with 92 goals during the regular season. Gretzky beat Phil Esposito's decade old record of 76 goals. Brett Hull has come the closest with 87 goals.

In 1961-62, Bobby Hull of the Chicago Black Hawks led the National Hockey League with 50 goals. Hull became just the third player in NHL history to score 50 in a single season. A group of three tied for second, 17 goals behind Hull. That group included Gordie Howe of the Detroit Red Wings.

The top goal scorer in the 1944-45 National Hockey League did not receive the Rocket Richard Trophy like today. The top goal scorer in 1944-45 was Rocket Richard. Maurice 'Rocket' Richard became the first ever 50 goal scorer in the NHL by scoring 50 goals in just 50 games. Also in the top 5 was Richard's teammate with the Montreal Canadiens, Toe Blake.

The team has reached the Stanley Cup finals just once, in 1992-93, but is threatening to do it again in 2012. In their time in the NHL, the Kings have surpassed 100 points in a single regular season on three occasions.

The AHL is the top affiliate to the NHL and the OHL is the top developmental hockey league in the world. It only makes sense that a third of the AHL's head coaches played their junior days in the OHL.
